WHAT’S ON IN BATH
Hello there – finally a new page and a new post to entertain you. On this page I will now and then review some of the happenings in and around Bath.
GREEK EVENING AT MR.B’S EMPORIUM OF READING DELIGHTS
Yesterday (07/10/10) I went to a very different form of author’s event at Mr. B’s Emporium of Reading Delights on John Street. Usually at those events the chosen author will read a bit from the new book, take some questions and then signs whatever you put in front of him. Although all those were elements of the evening as well they featured rather low on the agenda. The author present last night, Panos Karnezis , is Greek and therefore the event became a Greek Evening. It started with some rather delicious wine and a beautifully prepared starter, a pizza-like dough base topped with feta cheese and some vegetables – very yummy. We mingled and had the opportunity to talk to the other participants and the staff of the book shop about books, life, food and whatever else was on our minds. Then the official part of the evening started upstairs, with a two-man/woman band called -and here I must apologize- something like The Last of the Mixed Tapes. (I am no good with names.) They played a couple of songs specially composed for the evening, the lyrics inspired by Greek myths – this was the perfect beginning for the evening, relaxing and putting everybody in the right mood. Then Panos appeared and Nick (Mr. B) asked question and chatted with him about the authors books, approach to writing and other things Greek. Questions from us where allowed as well. Then the members of the staff who where present introduced their own, favourite Greek or Greece inspired book – I liked that very much, each of them where very passionate about their choice and I think influenced a few people’s purchases, at least mine. After all that it was time for the main course, a wonderful buffet of foods: chicken ( I don’t eat meat, so I have no idea how that was done) a gorgeous mackerel escabeche, hummus, tzatziki, barley filled tomatoes, selection of breads … all prepared by http://www.thethoughtfulbreadcompany.com/. And of course wine and more talk about books and literature in general. A second sitting started with the author reading from his newest book The Convent , taking more questions before the evening ended with the obligatory book signing and buying – Mr. B had put up a special “pop-up shop” with a selection of Books about or from Greece which tempted quite a few of us. It was a wonderful evening, so much more fun than a plain reading with Q&A (although they can be very good at times) and I very much look forward to the next one in one and a half weeks -that will be the Central European Night.

Sounds fantastic – I only wish I could get to Bath more easily!
